About the North Devon Gang Show

The North Devon Gang Show is a variety show performed at the The Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe.

The aim of the show is to give young people in Scouting and Guiding the opportunity to develop theatre skills and perform on a professional stage. For some this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The 65 plus performers are children and adults who are members of the Scouting and Guiding movements within North Devon who perform items based on musicals, comedy sketches and popular music giving up their time for rehearsals and the performances, on top of their other Scouting/Guiding and education/work commitments.

Those you will see on stage are backed up and supported by a team of almost 100 people; giving their time and skills voluntarily in areas of: costumes, front of house, make‑up, music, stage crew, scenery and production.

The show week is the culmination of six months of hard work by both performers and backstage teams.

Rehearsals start in September and by February, each cast member will have learnt words and movement for 25-30 of the 45 songs in the Show. And with many hundreds of hours spent by the wardrobe department producing all the costumes (with a cast of 65 plus, and each cast member requiring 5 or 6 costumes each, that’s an awful lot of costumes), a lot of time will have gone into ensuring each performance is full of great singing, lots of action, plenty of colour and loads of fun.

As the days, weeks and months of rehearsals go by, the confidence and adrenalin builds as each scene begins to take shape. Then before you know it, Show Week arrives bringing with it an air of great excitement. As the curtain goes back the energy and enthusiasm is at fever pitch as the Gang burst onto stage, a chance for the North Devon audiences to share in the great enjoyment.

If you have never seen a Gang Show come along and see for yourself how talented the youngsters are. Then sit back and enjoy the atmosphere!
